This is my comment on a friends blog. They had some thoughts with how Xmas has become more about things then about Christ. I have had many thoughts about it since. My thoughts haven't changed on it just thinking about it.
"I was here about 3 years ago. Then I did some studying and realized "Christmas" is a cultural festival that changed through out the years keeping some traditions and adding new ones. The way I view Xmas is just that as well. My culture formed it. Weather be my parents, Christian organizations ('church'), or society. Some of that culture was based on Biblical truth (Mary Jesus, Bethlehem, etc.) some was not (Three wise men coming that night, Santa, presents, trees, lights, etc) . I looked at the way I celebrated this festival and ask myself "does it take away from the glorification God?" If it did I had to drop it. If it didn't then it was just a personal preference. When I did this I became ok with what ever everyone else did the way I am ok every other day with what ever people decide to do.
Fact is Xmas isn't a Biblical Holiday so it really doesn't matter if people celebrate it differently then I do. If anything what Holidays like this one does is bring out the true heart in people.
I love Xmas time and I celebrate the season. About the only thing I don't do is Santa and yes I will tell my kids he is not real and if they tell their friend who believe, o well. We have a xmas tree, stockings, presents, and all that fun stuff. In my opinion it doesn't take away from God.
That's my thoughts for now...
